Back to it.

Haven't been on here for years, maybe its time I got back to it and spent a bit more time behind a camera or in front of a canvas.  Don't hold your breath though!

Almost a complete opposite of this time last year - windy, mild, and wet.  Not particularly inspiring for photography.

I have been concentrating on other hobbies this year since the interest of the snow left, the summer was quite forgettable and now that we are into the dark long nights I am trying to get out with my telescope for a spot of astronomy; this was set back by problems with my equipment but hopefully that is all sorted out now, all I need is a calm clear night...  tonight is clear (for now) but very very windy, even if my telescope wasn't blown over I think the damp cold wind would hurt my eyes so this is a night to maybe have a quick look with binoculars but not one to spend time setting up the telescope only for it to get blown away.

I also built a Tamiya Sand Scorcher, a classic 1/10th scale radio controlled dune buggy / baja buggy which was originally released in about 1980; it was re-released in 2010 with very few changes to the specification, it's been great fun to construct this and paint up the rigid body just the way I wanted, an experience for me as it's the first rigid body I've done.  I really enjoy adding in all the little details that make it unique, along with a few customisations and of course the driver as well.  As a fan of miniatures and models in general this is great, and a joy to see the finished article.  Only thing is I haven't managed to really run it yet beyond a couple of trial runs in the garden as the rear suspension is terrible, it just has no strength or bounce to it; this is an on-going thing that I am hoping to find a solution to, most likely in the form of replacement dampers with springs to replace the rather useless torsion bars it currently uses.  I suppose this is one part of the original specification they really should have sorted out in the 2010 re-release.

Anyway, enough of my sad hobbies!  I may well get around to attaching my camera to my astronomy equipment to take some photographs of astronomical wonders this year, watch out for that.

Snow business

It's that time of year again and the snow has made a welcome early appearance here, yay!

I'll be posting some snowy scenes taken using my little Canon point and shoot (because I couldn't be bothered lugging my DSLR about in the snow).

I seem to be experiencing a severe case of procrastination, I have bought equipment and taken photos but done nothing with them.  Why do I do it?  Is it for the enjoyment of taking photos?  I don't know, too lazy to figure it out!  I was thinking about doing some time-lapse photography but my windows are dirty and I'm too lazy to clean them.

I've ordered a mains adaptor for my Canon 1000D, hoping to get doing some time-lapse photography with the Canon software.  Now all I need is some sort of huge battery to run my MacBook from and a watertight box in case I want to set up an outdoor shoot (unfortunately the 1000D can't use the same electronic remote triggers as the 450D and other Canon DSLRs - why, Canon, why?)
